Catherine M. Allen Winkler

CATHERINE M. WINKLER HAMMOND, IN Catherine M. Winkler, 99 years old of Hammond, IN, went to be with her Lord, Friday, December 9, 2011 surrounded with the love of her family. Catherine was born October 31, 1912 in Knox County, IN. She resided in Vincennes, IN until 1950. She was the daughter of Orville Curtis Allen and Lula Mae (Vernon) Allen. Catherine Married Carlos F. Winkler on September 12, 1929 in Olney, IL. They celebrated fifty years of marriage in 1979. Catherine was a mother and a homemaker, having ten children and raising nine to adulthood. Known for her ladylike manners and her folksy wit and wisdom (the sun will always shine, at least once, on Wednesdays), Catherine was dearly loved by her 26 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 15 great, great grandchildren. Catherine is survived by six of her children: Jack Winkler (Rose Mary) of Las Vegas, NV, Carol Sue Randall (Roger) of Rockville, IN, Rita Holm (Mike) of Highland, IN, David L. Winkler of Centerville, IN, Judith Myers (David) of Hammond, IN and Daniel F. Winkler (Debbie) of Vincennes, IN; and two daughters-in-law: Marcella Winkler and Georgene Winkler. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eugene Allen; her husband, Carlos F. Winkler; children: Don C. Winkler of Princeton, IN, Betty K. Hussey (Joe) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Fred E. Winkler of Kingman, IN (formerly of Munster, IN) and infant son, Eddie Allen Winkler. Friends may visit the family Monday, December 12, 2011 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd., Highland, IN 46322. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Kuiper's with Senior Minister Mike Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Scher- erville, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Shriner's Children's Hospital, Louisville, KY or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
