She was born June 20, 1913 in Stokes County to Elder Zeb Rhodes and Grace Taylor Rhodes. Ruby was a resident of High Point most of her life, moving here from Nettle Ridge, VA in 1926. She received her education in Virginia and High Point public schools and Jones Business College.
On October 24, 1936 Ruby married Reid Franklin Wilson who preceded her in death on August 6, 1978. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Morgan of Greensboro and Margaret Moore of Jamestown, and two brothers, Wilfred “Dusty” Rhodes of New Jersey and Zeb Taylor Rhodes of Leland, NC.
Ruby was employed by Melrose Hosiery Company for 20 years as a receiving clerk. She was later the owner and operator of The Bouquet Flower Shop and was also an Avon representative for 35 years.
She was a faithful member of Mitchell’s Grove United Methodist Church, the Ladies Bible Class, and United Methodist Women. She served on the Administrative Council and the Bereavement and Sickness Support Committee and she faithfully visited shut-ins until her health prevented it. In 2001 she was presented with the Lay Person of the Year award, and in 2001 the Laity Service Award from the Western NC Conference.
Ruby loved the Lord, her family, her church, her friends, and her flowers.
Surviving are one daughter, Anna Dean Spinnett of Winston-Salem, and five sons, Gary Franklin Wilson and wife Connie of Greensboro, Vernon Cecil Wilson of High Point, Lonnie Ray Wilson and wife Nancy of High Point, Alfred Samuel Wilson and wife Pat of Climax, and David Randall Wilson and wife Sherry of High Point; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Tuesday, November 27, at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 28, at Mitchell’s Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Tim Porter. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
