Ralph Franklin (Buddy) Brown Jr, 89, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2021.
Born in High Point, November 21, 1931, he graduated from High Point High School, and continued his education at North Carolina State College and High Point College. He served in the United States Army before working in the family-owned construction company for fifteen years. Buddy then went on to build a highly successful career selling furniture. During these thirty-two years he won numerous awards and accolades, such as repeatedly receiving the much coveted “Salesman of the Year” honor. In addition to being a longtime member of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association (IHFRA) and other industry organizations, he also played an active role in the community through the High Point Jaycees. Most of all, he valued his many years of membership at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Having a goal-oriented mindset and spiritual grounding led him to countless triumphs in life.
Out of many hobbies and passions, Buddy had a special love for golf. He won several first and second place trophies in tournaments held by the High Point Seniors Golf Association. During this winning streak he hit a hole in one at the River Landing Course. Equally rewarding, Buddy had many friends who shared his love for the game. They took a once in a lifetime trip to St. Andrews in Scotland, known as the “home of golf,” with a history stretching back to the year 1400. Golf remained an important part of his life as he followed the major tournaments on television and frequently met his golfing friends at a local clubhouse, which he called “the school,” on account of the great many conversations, stories, and life-lessons that came out of these occasions.
Buddy was happily married to Glenda Aiken Brown for forty-eight years. They created a special life together, including much time spent at the lake, going to church, travel, and dinner with friends. He shared many experiences full of love and laughter with his friends and family.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Pauline Slack and Ralph Franklin Brown Sr., as well as his son, S. Scott Brown. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Aiken Brown; daughter, Amber Brown Hayes; first wife, Peggy Brown Moore; grandchildren: Tanner Hayes, Ryan Brown, and Natalie Brown Weiss (Beau Weiss); great-grandson, Logan Weiss.
A service will be held on Thursday, June 24th, at 12:00pm in the chapel at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Chestnut Drive in High Point by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson. The family will receive guests in the Asbury Room from 11 a.m. until the service. Internment will take place at Floral Garden Memorial Park following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. 1225 Chestnut Drive High Point, NC 27262. Online condolences may be made at Sechrestdavisphillipsavenue.com.
