Melba Juanita Craft Brandon, born in Ashland, MS on September 29, 1922, passed away, just shy of her 101st birthday. She studied as a surgical nurse in Memphis during WW2 and married Warren Brandon on May 10, 1944, just weeks before D-Day. She went on to work in postpartum at High Point Hospital for many years, helping bring many High Point residents into this world.
She was the loving mother of four children, and is survived by daughter Juanita Warriner of High Point and Steve Brandon of Richmond VA; two daughters-in-law, Linda Brandon of Raleigh and Penny Brandon of High Point. She was a grandmother of four: Robert Brandon of High Point, Jack Brandon and Nikki Palen of Raleigh, Emily and Eric Poulsen of Winston-Salem, and Kate Brandon-Sutton and James Sutton, and great-granddaughters Rowan and Holly Sutton of Raleigh.
Melba was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She volunteered with Mobile Meals, the Red Cross, and crocheted many prayer shawls for cancer patients. She read the Bible every day, moving on to large print and finally on recordings, when her eyesight failed. Her faith and generosity were quiet, but constant. Now she moves on to her next journey, whatever that may be, but will remain in the hearts and minds of all the people whose lives she touched with love and compassion in all her 100 years of life.
The celebration of life for Melba will be at First Presbyterian Church in High Point on September 29 at 11am. All memorials and flowers will go to the Health Care Charity of choice.
