Martha Faye Samuel Odell died October 20, 2012 in her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born January 20, 1937 in Guilford County to Richard G. and Grace McLeod Samuel. A Memorial service honoring Martha and her life will be held Friday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue.
Martha graduated from High Point Central High School, and during her career, was a real estate agent, bookkeeper and long-time manager of Sheraton Towers in High Point. In her work, many touched her deeply and knew her touch.
Martha was predeceased by her loving parents; sister, Nancy S. Everhart; niece, Faye Everhart Collett; daughters, Christina Jo and Geraldine Odell, and Deborah Faye White. She is survived by her children , grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous family members and friends, including (but not limited to): Liz White Evans, Richard Ryan and Ariana Grace; Susan Hutto, J. Cole Hutto and Jeremiah Hutto and Amanda Hill and Landen; George Wm. IV and Jennifer Oliveros Odell, Tyler Faye and Dakota Grace; C. L. Everhart, Samuel and Deborah Hedrick Everhart, John and John Charles Collett; Jerry W. Odell; W. Thurman, Judy Russell and Kellee D. White; Jimmy Hutto; Richard E. Evans; and long-time friends Hannie Mae Morton , Sue Brown, Katherine Proctor, Robin Newton and Joey Deberry.
Martha’s friendship, mothering, mentoring, humor, independence, and home-cooking remain inspirational to persons near and far. To have sat at her table is a known blessing. She will be missed in body-presence, but well remembered in spirit, as her remarkable beauty lives on, in and through others. We love you dearly, Martha, Mama, Mot-Mot, Ms. Odell.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont or the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends after the service. Those attending will be offered the opportunity to speak during the service, if desired, of Martha’s life and love.
