Lois Ray (Hicks) Hamilton, age 93, of Thomasville, NC passed away on Friday January 13, 2023 at Whitestone Care and Wellness Center. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
Born in Carthage, NC on August 16, 1929, Lois was the daughter of the late Isaac Lindsey Hicks Sr. and Lilly Frances Patterson. She was the second of four siblings including 2 sisters and a brother.
On September 25, 1954, she married Guy Virgus Hamilton at the Moore County Court House followed by a short honeymoon in Denton, NC. The young couple settled in High Point, NC where they welcomed a daughter Karen and a son David. In 1963, the family moved to Thomasville where they welcomed their third child Deanna Kay.
Over the years, Lois worked as a bookkeeper at Reliance Universal. She was a member of the Thomasville Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was named their “Woman of the Year” in 1986.
Lois was an active member of Greenstreet Baptist Church in High Point, NC for more than 50 years where she taught Sunday School and Mission Friends to several generations of children. It is at Greenstreet that Lois met her two lifelong best friends Susie and Martha.
Lois enjoyed an active retirement of volunteering, gardening, senior bus trips, swim class at the Thomasville YMCA, and making soup at Davidson County Extension Home Makers.
Lois loved to laugh and could find the humor in any situation. Even in her last weeks of life, despite having limited ability to speak, she was still able to laugh. She will be remembered for her playful, loving, and generous spirit.
Lois will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Karen Hamilton and Deanna Hamilton; step-granddaughters Becky Davidson (Charlie) and Beth Ramsue (Patrick); sister Doris Hicks; best friend Martha Pegram; and numerous other cherished family members, neighbors, and friends.
Lois is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Guy Virgus Hamilton. Also preceding in death are her beloved son David Guy Hamilton and daughter in-law Drema Luther Hamilton.
A visitation for Lois will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 976 Phillips Ave, High Point, North Carolina 27262, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
The family extends special thanks the wonderful staff at Whitestone Care and Wellness Center in Greensboro, NC for their compassionate and loving care of “LoLo” over the past seven years. You will forever have special place in our hearts.
