

Joanne Turner Hollinger, 76, a resident of Archdale died on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at The Cancer Center at High Point Regional Hospital. She was married to John Cecil Hollinger Jr. who preceded her in death on October 23, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Robert Hal Turner, Jimmy Turner and her sister Betty Jean Turner.
Joanne was born on February 6, 1936 in Morganton the daughter of Ralph and Annie Pauline Michaels Turner. She graduated from Glen Alpine High School and played on the basketball, volleyball and softball teams. Joanne had a great love for UNC-Chapel Hill basketball and participated in many sports during her lifetime. She was a member of the High Point Breakfast Club Bowling League for 45 years. Also, she was a member of the North Carolina Ladies State Championship Bowling Team in 1985. For over 25 years she and her husband owned and operated Drum Filter Media in High Point.
Joanne was very active in her community and was a member of the PTA at Archdale Middle School and Trinity High School for 18 years. She won the Trinity Bulldog Booster Member of the Year Award in 1979 and 1980. She also was the voter registrar for the City of Archdale for 17 years. She was an avid gardener and most recently won Archdale’s “Yard of The Month” in July 2012. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Archdale and a member of the Willing Worker’s Sunday school class.
Joanne is survived by her son, John Cecil Hollinger III, his wife Pattie and grandson Kane Hollinger of Archdale; daughter Lea Ann Hollinger and grand dog JoJo of Greensboro; special nephews Jimmy Sisk, and Brian Williams of Greensboro and nephews Scotty Turner, Dennis Turner, and Larry Farley. Extended family members are Mildred Henderson, Debbie and Bobby Irvin and their daughters Sarah and Hannah.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday August 19, 2012 at Sechrest Funeral Service of Archdale. A Service to Celebrate Joanne’s Life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Archdale at 3:00 p.m. Monday August 20, 2012 with Pastor Bob Ferguson and Pastor J.C. Alley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Floral Garden Cemetery in High Point.
