Joan Marie Montgomery, age 95, of High Point, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield, Highpoint, NC where she was lovingly cared for by the staffs of Hayworth House and Hughes House since 2019. Joan was a loving and supportive homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was also a talented pianist; and when her children were young she enjoyed singing with them in the car. She instilled in them a love of books and reading and kindness towards others. She loved music from the 1940s, playing canasta, and watching Tennessee football.
Mrs. Montgomery was born December 16, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late J. B. Walker and Mary O. Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Charles Jackson (Jack) Montgomery of Etowah, Tennessee and her four sisters, Olivia Abell, Marjorie Kneisel, Betty Jean Eblen, and Mary Louise Reed. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Stokes and husband Robert Stokes of Georgetown, Texas and Mary Carolyn Sizemore and husband Kim Sizemore of High Point, NC; one son, Dr. Robert W. Montgomery and wife Dr. Yeshen-Khorlo Dugarova-Montgomery of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be held at a future date in Etowah, Tennessee where she lived for over 30 years.
