Jane was born on November 18, 1925, in Carthage, NC, to Ruth Harriss Tyson and Lucien Person Tyson and was educated in the local schools. She graduated from Woman’s College (now UNC-G) and moved to High Point where she taught kindergarten and first grade students at Ray Street School. She met and married Joseph Graham Hunt on December 19, 1948. Together they raised two daughters. Jane greatly enjoyed being a wife and homemaker. She took an active role in her family’s activities and volunteered at church, schools and in the community. She was a loving and supportive wife to her husband. Jane loved children and hearing the happy sounds of children at play, especially those who grew up on Edgedale Drive. Her home was always open to them. It is a testament to her caring and nurturing nature that those same children fondly refer to her as “Mama Hunt”. Jane had a great sense of humor, loved dogs and eating a “loaded” hotdog from The Dog House. Jane was an excellent cook and talented seamstress. She excelled at being a good friend and neighbor. Jane encouraged her children and their friends in all of their activities and emphasized good manners and correct grammar. Her close relationship with her granddaughter, Maggie, brought particular joy to both of their lives.
Jane was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed an active membership there until it became too difficult to attend services in person.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Graham Hunt, and her parents. She is survived by her loving daughters Jane Hunt Worley and husband Samuel of Raleigh; Joanna Hunt Davis and husband Joseph of Wilmington; granddaughter Margaret Tyson Davis of Wilmington; her sister Ruth Harriss Tyson of Southern Pines; special niece Betsy Hunt of High Point and many nieces and nephews.
