Though never marrying and having no children of her own, she became an integral part of the Murphy family for almost 20 years. She was second mother and sounding board to the boys, friend to Keith, and bestie to Avis.
After a short illness, Jamie Jones passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father early morning March 28th. Her father, Michael, her grandparents, and Nancy (of Skateland West) were waiting for her on the other side of the pearly gates.
Jamie is survived by her mother and stepfather, Marilu and Jeff, of Ohio; Younger sister Lee and husband Hubert; Her brother Michael (Chuckie); Both siblings of D.C.. She also has some incredible aunts & uncles and cousins back in Indiana. Of course, the Murphy’s of local renown. The writer would be remiss if they didn’t mention her Skateland family as well.
Dear family, Jamie loved you all more than you will ever know.
Friend Jamie was extraordinary. She gained her freedom at 16 years (14 years by some accounts) and began her solo adventures in skating and cleaning. These two things fueled each other. Skating was expensive. Cleaning paid the bills. Jamie’s skating adventures and cleaning brought her happiness. Her (circle of) people were more than her coworkers and clients. They were her family. This is what endeared her to those who knew Jamie best. Her clients loved her as a part of their own kin…a close helpmate and friend.
Obits normally attest to the formal schooling of the recently passed…..Jamie completed her associate’s degree in Logistics through GTCC a few years back. She never used the degree professionally. She simply loved her people too much ever to leave them.
To close…
Jamie Jones was private to a fault and loved with a gigantic heart. Jamie requested no memorial service. She wished not to burden you, those she loved, of her illness and another weekend engagement of attending a memorial that would inevitably end in tears.
In truth, her life should be celebrated. We encourage you to…
Skate until your wheels fall off
Get a drink at the snack bar and raise it in her memory,
Remember how she affected your life and share those stories with each other
And do it with a big smile and middle fingers raised
Thank you, Jamie, for sharing your life with us all.
