Ivy was born May 13, 1920, in Bishopville, SC, the daughter of the late Maggie Hyatt Brown and Jackson Joel Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman James Riggs in 1984, a sister, Louise Owens Crouse in 1986, a daughter, Ann Riggs Howard in 1990, and great-grandson, Andrew Howard in 2011.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Ivey James Riggs (Joyce) of Jamestown, daughters Rebecca Mullis of Nashville, TN, Jackie Gillespie of High Point, Sarah Chiles (David) of Jamestown, Cheryl Rice of Carolina Beach; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Riggs, Christopher Riggs, Brian Riggs, Cindy Komarek, Audrey Robertson, Dr. Janice Howard, Gregory Howard, Marcus Davis, Angela Kemper and Melissa Freeman; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.
She was a member of Community Evangelical United Methodist Church where she served as organist until 2002. Ivy loved music and playing piano. She especially enjoyed the old hymns she grew up with in church choir. She was a great seamstress, floral designer, avid gardener, and enjoyed all kinds of needlework. She was a real estate broker until retirement in early 1980’s.
She was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She was a wonderful Christian mother, grandmother and friend and will be remembered for her love of Christ, her kindness and sweet, loving spirit.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 30, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service at 1301 E. Lexington Ave. High Point, NC 27262, with family visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
