Dr. Dawson was born in Ft. Payne, AL, January 7, 1926, a son of the late Irvin and Gladys Cook Dawson. He served in the Navy medical corps during of W.W. II. Dr. Dawson received his degree from Northwestern University in Chicago and practiced dentistry in High Point for thirty four years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Proctor Dawson and a son, Brian Dale Dawson. After retiring, Dr. Dawson and his wife lived in Port Orange, FL for several years and he was a avid fisherman.
Surviving are three sons, Richard C. Dawson, Sr. of Greensboro, Dr. Terry W. Dawson and wife Ann of High Point and Tony D. Dawson and wife Sylvia of Trinity; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Dr. Dawson’s Life will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Pastor Chris Painter. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
