Mrs. Polk was born October 3, 1921 in Davidson County to Robert L. and Mary E. Lopp Fritts. She was a graduate of Bryce Business College and was employed for thirty years with the 3-M Company, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Fritts was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in High Point and the Rebecca Sunday School Class. She loved nature, including birds and was known as the “Flower Lady” in her community for her lovely flower gardens. On November 4, 1945 she married John T. Polk, who preceded her in death in February of 1980. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Edna Waitman and Alta Royals; and brothers, Terry and Roby Fritts.
Surviving are her sister; Gladys Beck of Lexington, and her brother, Thurman Fritts of Lexington. Mrs. Polk is also survived by her step-son; Norman Polk of England, Arkansas and her numerous nieces and nephews. Also counted among her loving family are her caregivers, Creola Little and Benson Rogers.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1401 Heathcliff Road in High Point with the Reverend David Olsen officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
