Max was born in Johnston County, November 11, 1937, a son of the late Enoch and Eva Godwin Dudley. He retired from Valspar after 43 years of service. Max loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Emma Hope and Ava Grace Maynard and a brother in law, Willie Young. Max was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Shelby Lassiter Dudley; a daughter, Miranda Maynard; two sons, Darman Dudley and wife Susan and Wesley Dudley and wife Edna Diane; two sisters, Rebecca Young and Judy Flynn and husband Charlie; a brother, Ronnie Dudley; nine grandchildren, his “Stone Buddies”, Rhonda Dye and husband Buddy, David Dudley, Carson Maynard and wife Rachel, Michael Dudley and wife Melissa, Jason Dudley and wife Kim, Justin Dudley and wife Amanda, Amber, Amanda and Cheryl Dudley; fifteen great-grandchildren and his faithful cat, Sarabelle.
A Celebration of Max’s Life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bruno Wolfe and Rev. Dean Maynard. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
