Ethel Leigh Bryant was born March 5th, 1922 to the late Kiney and Myrtle Gordan Byrant in Davidson County, 7 miles south of Thomasville.
Ethel was a 1940 Honor Graduate of Davis Townsend High School, ranking 2nd in her class.
On the way to her sister’s wedding they stopped at a department store in High Point where she met a tall, handsome man who had just returned home from overseas; Lee R. Brown.
The two were married 10 months later on March 5th, 1946. They made their home in Lee’s beloved High Point and raised their two children until his passing on August 27th, 2010.
In 1953 she and Lee were baptized in the river by Rev. W. L. Smith of Friendly Baptist Church. She was a member of the Chattie Smith/Elizabeth Sechrest Sunday School Class where she served as Sunday School Secretary.
Ethel worked for over 52 years in the garment industry, retiring in 1992.
Preceding her in death are her sisters, Lora Byrant and Maxine B. Nicks; brother Williams Beauford Gordon.
Surviving her is her lifelong best friend since childhood, Jesus Christ her personal savior; her daughter Myra B. Clodfelter and husband Wade of High Point; her son Michael L. Brown of High Point; her grandchildren, Jason Clodfelter of High Point and Tyler Clodfelter and wife Janet of Trinity; her great grandson Jacob Dylon Clodfelter who granny loved and adored this smart young man; her sisters Iola B. Leonard and Bettie B. Kindley of Thomasville; her sister-in-law Jean Brown; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm at Sechrest Funeral Service on East Lexington Ave. A funeral honoring her life will be held at 2pm, Thursday in the Chapel with Pastor Tony Sluss officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
