Donnie “Poppy" Varner

On December 21st, 2015, Donnie “Poppy” Varner went home to heaven to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on February 9, 1948, in Guilford County the son of Ernest Donald Varner Sr. and the late Olean Hucks Varner. Donnie was a prominent business leader in the triad and the co-owner of Varner Electric, Inc. He was a respected and active member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Judy Hayes Varner; son Travis Varner (Joy); daughter Misty (Mitchell); and grandchildren Sarah and Sallie Logan, and Xan, Kiersten, Alison and Sophie Varner; and brother Wayne Varner (Marcia).

A funeral service will be held at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church on December 24, 2015, at 11am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point on December 23rd from 6pm-8pm.
