Shu Min truly flourished as a grandmother. Her home was a sanctuary where her grandchildren learned the values of kindness, hard work, and the importance of family traditions. Shu Min’s love for them was limitless, and her kitchen became a cherished haven where she lovingly prepared their favorite meals, always keeping an organized list of each grandchild's preferences. Her culinary talents not only fed their bodies but nourished their souls, and every family gathering became a celebration of her love. Her home was the heart of the family, a place where traditions were passed down and lasting memories were made.
A woman of many passions, Shu Min had a flair for fashion, embracing her femininity with elegance and grace. She took immense joy in flowers and gardening, adorning her home with seasonal decorations that reflected her creative spirit. Her surroundings radiated warmth, inviting everyone into her lovingly crafted world.
Shu Min also had an incredible instinct that guided her throughout her life, influencing not just her savvy for the stock market but every decision she made. Whether it was making important family decisions or navigating life’s challenges, she had an innate ability to trust her gut, which so often proved right. Her instincts were a testament to her wisdom, sharp mind, and understanding of the world around her.
Her strength and determination were evident in all aspects of her life. Alongside her devoted husband, Robert Mg Nyein, Shu Min built a successful life after emigrating from Burma. Together, they achieved the American dream, establishing a thriving medical practice and becoming pillars of the Chinese and Burmese communities. Their partnership was built on mutual support and love, as they worked tirelessly to create opportunities for their family and others, bringing loved ones over from Burma and leaving behind a legacy of love, success, and generosity.
As a mother, Shu Min nurtured her children—Roland, Roger, and Betty—with boundless love and guidance. Though she experienced the heartache of losing her son Roger far too soon, Shu Min now joins him in eternal peace. Her heart was always open, and she embraced her children-in-law, Lila Nyein and Joseph Chan, as her own, loving them with the same devotion.
Above all, Shu Min was the glue that held her family together, embodying the role of matriarch with grace and strength. She instilled in her family a deep appreciation for their culture, passing down traditions and stories that connected them to their heritage. Her ability to organize family events and celebrations created lasting memories, ensuring that everyone felt included, valued, and loved.
Shu Min’s grandchildren—Heather, Andrew, Ethan, Benjamin, Grace, Eloise, and Penny—were the true joy of her life. She would do anything for them, and they will forever remember her as their greatest champion, teacher, and source of love. Shu Min was also the loving older sister to Sue Young Tan and a cherished great aunt to Edwin, Jenny, and Sonia Tay. Her devotion to family extended to every branch of her life, creating a close-knit, loving family unit that will carry forward her values of love, generosity, and unity.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, located at 125 Old Country Road, Hicksville. Shu Min lived a life full of love and meaning, and her legacy of strength, family, and devotion will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing her. May her soul rest in peace, and may her family find comfort in the profound love she shared with them.
