HUDSON---Worth Azell Kanipe 80, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Our loss is the Lord’s gain and in that we celebrate! Worth was born November 2, 1935 in Mecklenburg County to the late W.E. and Grace Mozeley Kanipe. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James Terrell Kanipe and twin step- granddaughters. Worth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hudson. He was a Charter Member of the Fairbrook Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue. He worked for General Electric for more than 10 years before becoming Vice President of W.E. Kanipe and Sons Construction for 40 years. Worth also was a carrier for the Hickory Daily Record for 38 years and he served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. He is survived by his wife Betty Prestwood Kanipe of the home; his daughters Teresa Ryan of Murray, UT, and Kathy Haithcock and husband John of Medicine Park, OK; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; step-daughters Tina Williams and husband Tim of Bessemer City, and Tyra Joplin and husband David of Hudson; a step-son Jody Kincaid and wife Martha of Lenoir; 3 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandson; a sister Lennie K. Sever and husband Thomas of Vale and his brothers Charles Kanipe of Newton and Lee Kanipe and wife Brenda of Vale. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ann Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 1:30pm to 2:45pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
