William Morgan Barnett, Jr., 81, passed away March 27, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born September 15, 1931 in Franklin, MA, he was the son of the late William Morgan Barnett, Sr. and Emily Ribero Barnett. He was a member of St. John’s LCMS, a veteran of the US Army and was self-employed in the box manufacturing industry. William graduated in 1955 from NC State where he received a degree in textiles and chemistry. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and was also a member of the ROTC. He still enjoyed getting together with his fraternity brothers. William loved a good game of golf and enjoyed long walks with his dog, Harley.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his first wife Phylis Barnett; and brother, James Barnett.
William is survived by his wife of 8 years, Margy Thompson Barnett; sons, Troy Barnett and wife Lisa of Hickory, William “Barney” Morgan Barnett III of Newton and Phillip Ray Barnett and wife Lara of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ashley Barnett, Megan Barnett, Morgan Barnett and George Barnett; brother, Herbert Barnett of Raleigh and sister, Joan Long of Garner, NC.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church LCMS in Conover with the Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. Anton Lagoutine officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
