Walter Howard Woodruff

Walter Howard Woodruff, age 68 , went home to the Lord on Wednesday , December 28, 2016. He was born on December 27, 1948 in Newburgh, New York to Frank and Marion Stanton Woodruff. In 1970, Walt married the love of his life Donna and together they raised two sons, Brian and Jason. He came to Hickory in 1986 and worked for GDS Disposal Service and Huffman Grading.

Walt was a simple man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was member of Highland United Methodist Church in Hickory who found salvation in 1990.

Walt is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Donna of Hickory; sons, Brian Woodruff and Jason Woodruff both of Hickory; grandchildren, Caleb Woodruff and Presley Woodruff both of Hickory; brother, Dennis Woodruff and wife Linda of Newburgh, New York; and sister, Marybeth Dawes of Marlboro, New York.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marion; brother, Frank Woodruff Jr., and wife Renee and niece, Melissa Napier.

A celebration of Walt’s life will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm at Freedom Biker Church, 1385 33rd St., SE in Conover with Pastor Greg Spurling officiating. Cremation will be private.
