Mae Sipe Hester, 89, of Hickory, moved into Heaven, February 7, 2014, following a brief illness at Catawba Valley Medical Center and Trinity Lutheran Home. Born June 30, 1924 in Vale, NC, she was the daughter of the late Bert Sain and Alice Sain Pendleton. She lived her entire life in Hickory and was a lifetime member of the First Church of God in West Hickory where she taught Sunday School most of her adult life. She lived in the home of her deceased son with her granddaughter, Dana Sipe, preceding her illness.
Mae was blessed with a long full life and she remained active and alert until the end. She was a quiet, soft spoken woman of devout faith, who spent her life’s energy serving her Lord and making her family happy. She will be missed by her family and the many people whose lives she touched over the years, especially those of the young adult married classes she taught.
In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her two husbands, Emery E. Sipe and Woodrow Hester and son, Danny Ray Sipe.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry Eugene Sipe and wife Betty of Anderson, IN, and David Phillip Sipe and wife Mondie of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Joan Sipe Mesardjian of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Donna, Sherri, Rebecca, Dana, Caroline and Jake; 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Clyde Sain of Hickory.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.
A service of celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the First Church of God in West Hickory with Rev. Michael Hone officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Church of God, 306 14th Street SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
