Sue Propst HICKORY Sue Turnmyre Propst, 94, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Kingston Residence of Hickory, following a period of declining health. Sue was born in Caldwell County to the late John Arthur and Sara Ella McRary Turnmyre. She was a member of Miller's Lutheran Church, worked for Spainhour's of Hickory and was the manager of The Hickory Service League for many years. Sue and her husband, Ken, were strong Republicans and for many years were very active in Catawba County Politics. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Buck" Chester Propst; five sisters, Ethel T. Bogle and husband, Will, Corinne T. Teague Canupp and husband, Luke, Delaune T. Elmore and husband, Paul, Mary T. Parham, and Pauline T. Huntley and husband, Woodrow; four brothers, A.P. Turnmyre and wife, Ann, Grethel Nolan "Trig" Turnmyre, Peter I. Turnmyre and wife, Thelma, and Albert Turnmyre and wife, Marie; a sister-in-law, Martha Propst Miller; and four brothers-in-law, Ken Thomas, Rev. E.H. Fastenau, Jack M. Propst and Jones W. Miller Jr. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Sue T. Elder of Louisiana and Marie T. Stevens of Marcellus, New York; a number of great-nieces and nephews including Tamara Verbiest and husband, John of Hickory, Kenneth Turnmyre and wife, Donna of Hickory, John A. Turnmyre of Hickory; a number of great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Nell Propst Thomas of Hickory, Gale Rowe Propst of Hickory, and Doris Propst Fastenau of Asheville; and a dear friend, Gail Barron at Kingston Residence of Hickory. A chapel service will be held Wednesday, March 5, at 3 p.m., in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Robert E. (Bob) Hibbitts officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
