Ruth Deal Jones

HICKORY – Ruth Deal Jones, age 88, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice after an extended illness. Ruth was born on April 4, 1927 in Catawba County to the late Perry and Bertha Deal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jones, and by 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her daughter Anne Stewart and husband Randy of Chapel Hill; her sons Alan Jones and wife Wanda of Kings Mountain, Wayne Jones and wife Carolyn of Valdese, Darrell Jones and wife Eula of Hickory; granddaughters Mandy Bouttamy, Ashley Hussey, Lauren Stewart, Mariah Jones, and Andrea Stewart; grandsons Chad Jones and Brian Jones; 4 great grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild. Ruth was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte and spent a number of years in private duty nursing, as well as staff nursing at Hickory Memorial Hospital and Catawba Memorial Hospital. After retiring from Catawba, she continued on there in a volunteer capacity for nearly 27 years.

Ruth’s faith and her family were extremely important to her. She served in many positions at Highland United Methodist Church beginning in 1948.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 21, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Highland United Methodist Church with Reverend Roy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at CataMemorial Park.
