HICKORY - Ruby Bailey Johnson, 81, known to her family as "Mom Ruby" went to her heavenly home Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health.
Ruby was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Catawba County to the late J.S. and Irene Pack Bailey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Ray Johnson; a daughter, Renee Sain, and a son, Kelly Johnson.
She was a charter member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and the cook for the Wednesday night meals.
Surviving are a son, Jeff Johnson, and his wife, Pam, of Hickory; a daughter, Jan Hendrix, and her husband, Terry, of Hickory; a son-in-law, Mike Sain, and his wife, Gina, of Hildebran; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Rhyne Johnson, of Hickory; 16 grandchildren, Lindsey and Kyle Hendrix, Allison and her husband, Mike Brooks; Tracy and Colby Johnson, Josh Riddle; Alex, Elizabeth and Matt Johnson; Jenna and Jeremiah Sain, Erika and Matthew Hoyle; Tammy Dover, Candice Justice, and Crystal Hildebran; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill, Ronnie and Tommy Bailey; three sisters, Margie Deitz, Barbara Deason and Faye Hyder .
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Hurley and Ben Rowe officiating.
