Roy was born on May 2nd, 1961, in Euclid, OH. Roy was preceded in death by both parents Robert “Bob” Mast and Jean (Mutchler) Mast. Roy is survived by the “BEST” 5 Sisters and Brothers (in-law) Joy and Tim Hogan, Jill and Marlin Russell, Judy and Emileo DeSantis, Jayne Mast and Michael O’Toole, Joan and Billy Roeder and his nephew Bradley Russell. Other family includes Deb and David Wilson, Vincent, Eric, Zachary and Deanne Nockowski. Ryan Wilson and Mandi (Wilson) Christopherson. All of Ohio.
Roy is also survived by his longtime friend and love Amy Powell and her family Nicole and Holly Partridge, Stephen Mason, Leighton Slaughter, David Krueger, and Paulette Krueger all of Hickory, NC.
Roy was a graduate of Euclid High School and Ohio University.
Roy first and foremost loved his family, he loved growing up on 216th Street in Euclid, OH and all the lifelong friends he met there. He loved the game of golf and all the friends he met playing anywhere from Salt Fork East in Ohio AND West in Palm Springs CA. He was a member of various golf leagues over the years some he created. He loved golf trips with his brother in-laws and Dad and golf tournaments he organized, played in, or attended. The only thing that could rival his love for golf was his love for the Cleveland Browns, ever the optimist Roy still holds a season ticket even after moving to N.C. 15 years ago and when the others in his group of 4 long tapped out.
Roy had a long career in advertising, he worked for Transwestern Yellow Pages, Plus Pages Publishing and Rink Media to name a few. Everywhere Roy worked he made friends that would last a lifetime like Juan Heredia and his wife Lucy. Most recently Roy was known as “Roy with the Billboards”. Roy was very proud of his work on the billboards and Amy would often refer to them as “his children”. In true Roy fashion he used his billboard work to grow relationships with the people that he sold them to or those that helped him like Stevie Richardson and Stephen Mason and some that just rode along like David Krueger. So, as you drive down the road and see a billboard that is too wordy, or it is unclear what the product is know that Roy did NOT create that billboard! And if there is a wrinkle in it, he sure as heck didn’t hang it!
To say we will miss the sound of Roy’s unmistakable voice and great laugh is an understatement. Please join us on Saturday December 18th at East Coast Wings 2221 US Hwy 70 SE, Hickory, NC after 3:30 pm to celebrate Roy and cheer on his beloved Cleveland Browns. Wear your brown and orange and pretend to be a Browns fan if only for one day.
