CONOVER – Ronald Clay Lail of Conover, 72 passed away on May 25, 2018 after a brief illness.
Born on October 23, 1945 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Willard Lail and Della Decker Lail Norman. Ron received an Associate Degree in Drafting from CVTI. During that time period he also served in the NC Army National Guard for six years completing an Honorable Discharge. He worked as a tool draftsman for Hickory Springs MFG. Ron started a long career in professional truck driving for Superior Continential, Seicor, Spartan Freight, Fed Ex Freight and Conway Freight where he retired in 2015. Ron enjoyed his yard work, vegetable garden, and especially crappy fishing. He especially enjoyed being “Mayor” of Bumgarner Gardens.
Survivors include his wife Joy D. Lail of Conover; sons, Jason C. Lail of Conover, Cory T. Lail and wife Katy of Hickory; grandchildren, Atticus and Penelope Lail of Hickory; step-children, Dale Barnes and wife Barbara of Lexington, Dana Shook and husband Randy of Lenoir; and the mother of his children, Chi Chi Lail of Long View; siblings, Jerry Lail and wife Jean of Lenoir, Harry Lail and wife Molly Sue of Morganton, and JoAnn Edwards and husband David of Connelly Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 4 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 410 26th Ave NE, Hickory NC 28601 with Rev. David Daly officiating. Reception to follow.
