In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruby Beaver, niece, Tammy Jones, brother-in-law, Charlie Drennan, and uncle and aunt, Bernard and Dot Beaver.
Roger was a graduate of Catawba College and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He served as Pastor to Mt. Gilead Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant, NC, and St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Conover NC before retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Beaver; son, Christopher Beaver and wife Christy; two grandchildren, Caleigh and Colton, whom he loved dearly; sister, Glenda Jones of Gold Hill; niece, Sheri Trexler and husband Tracy and their children, Joshua (Katie) Taylor, and Kayla, and great-great niece, June. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Reba Drennan; niece Heather; nephew Brad; great-nephews, Chaz and Chay; aunt and uncle, Henry and Beverly Drennan and their children, Michael and Michelle (Darrell) and their children Kelssie, Kassidy and Kinsley.
Roger had served as Chaplain at Catawba Memorial Hospital, was a member of Carolina Moonlighters where he served as Secretary and President. He was also a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Hickory, where he served on the Evangelism Committee and was active in the Primetimers.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with The Rev. Dr. Christy Lohr Sapp, presiding and Bishop Timothy Smith preaching. Covid 19 restrictions will be observed; masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.
