Robert Bob Lewis Huffman

Robert Lewis Huffman Robert Lewis Huffman, age 82, went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 4, 1934 in Hickory, NC to Raymond and Edna Raby Huffman. In 1954, Bob married the love of his life Mary Lou Wike Huffman and together they raised a daughter, Janet Huffman Markham. Bob, as he was called, was hard working and a generous man who would give the shirt off his back to help people in need. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He owned and operated Huffman Saw & Tool for over 40 years. He was a charter member of Unity Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC where he served as Treasurer, was active on various committees and sang in the choir. He served 31 years with the Saint Stephens Volunteer Fire Department where he was Treasurer and Safety Officer and was recognized as Fireman of the Year in 1993. He also volunteered and served with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Mary Lou Wike Huffman, daughter Janet Huffman Markham and husband Tim, grandson Brandon Michael Greene and wife Leah and great grandsons Ty Brandon Greene and Glen Michael Greene. His brothers J.C. Huffman and Wade Huffman, his sisters Inez Watts and husband Leonard, Frances Cranford and husband James and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Edna Raby Huffman, brothers Clyde Huffman and wife Wilma, Ray Huffman and wife Mary, sister Martha Jean Walls and husband Wayne and sisters in law Phyllis Huffman and Nancy Huffman. He will be best remembered as a family man who loved his wife, his daughter, grandson and great grandsons. He enjoyed being with his family camping, going to the beach and going to the mountains. He was a wonderful role model and would do anything to help his family and friends. He is greatly missed. The family will receive friends on January 6, 2017 from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at Unity Lutheran Church prior to the service. A celebration of Bob’s life will follow at 11:00 am in the Unity Lutheran Church sanctuary with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Unity Lutheran Church, 3025 Falling Creek Road, Hickory, NC 28601.
