Robert Lee Huffman

HICKORY - Robert Lee Huffman, 87, passed away February 20, 2014 at his residence after a period of declining health. Mr. Huffman was born July 26, 1926 in Catawba Co. to the late Schyler and Laura E. Heavner Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Doris Cline Huffman and a dear brother, Roy Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was retired from G. E after 33 years as a coil winder and supervisor, a Navy veteran of WW II as an airplane mechanic and a member of First Assembly of God Church, Hickory where he was a deacon, elder and usher. He was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended Campbell College. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Anderson Huffman of the home; sons, Lamar Huffman and wife Nancy Goforth of Granite Falls, Ronald Huffman and wife, Pam Lail of Newton: daughter, Sandra Cook and husband, Bob Cook of Grants Pass. OR; nephew, Eddie Huffman and wife Cathy of Statesville; grandsons, David and Nathan Huffman of Granite Falls, Jonathan Huffman and wife, Tuul, of Mongolia and Roy Huffman of Boone, NC; granddaughters, Jessica Harwell and husband, Nathan of Apex, NC, Kristen Cook of Calif., Chloe Huffman of Hickory and Hannah Huffman of Hickory; great granddaughter, Amelie of Apex, NC.; sister, Ruth Austin of Hickory and a brother, Clarence Huffman of Hickory. Services will be Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 3:00 P. M. at First Assembly of God Church, Hickory with Rev. Mark Dolphens officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 2:45 P. M. at First Assembly of God Church, Hickory. Memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, N.
