Richard Elmer Hoke, age 94, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born November 3, 1925 in Buncombe County, NC, he was the son of the late Ruth Hoke Poovey. Richard was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church and retired from the City of Hickory as a meter reader.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel I. Price Hoke and brothers, Joe Poovey, David Poovey and Lynn Poovey.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Jeannie Pierce and Jacky Baker, Tina Anne Hoke Williams and husband David, and Annette Good; son, Billy Ray Hoke and wife Michelle, all of Hickory; brother, Kenny Poovey and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Brandon Pierce, Wesley Hoke, Heather Winters, Aaron Winters, Lauren Good and Rebecca Hoke; great grandchildren, Mason Hoke, Bryson Winters, Mylen Winters, Madison Winters, Katelyn Hoke, Campbell Pierce, Annsley Pierce and Micah Partin.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. Dale Watts officiating.
