Paul Powers, Jr., 92, of Hickory, died on February 3, 2018 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Born May 19, 1925 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Powers, Sr. and Addie Mae Henderson Powers.
Paul served in the US Army during World War II, leaving as a Staff Sergeant. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Hickory where he served the church as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. He retired after 25 years as a salesman with Wallace Computer Services, where he won National Salesman of the Year many times
.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Gibson Powers; and brothers, J.L. Powers and Kenneth Powers.
Paul is survived by his son, Jon Paul Powers and wife Josie of Hickory; daughter, Vicki Wise and husband Carol of Hickory; grandchildren, Jon Powers, Steve Powers, Kenny Wise and wife Kelly, Mark Wise and Ted Murphy and wife Keri; great-grandchildren, Kaden Wise, Kolby Wise, Kensley Wise, Trevor Murphy and Charlie Murphy; brother, Bill Powers and wife Eleene of Gastonia and special friend, Cliff Moore.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Hickory with Revs. Rendell Hipps, and Pat Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. in the parlor of First Baptist Church in Hickory.
