Mrs. Mary Evelyn Shepherd

MARY EVELYN HOLDEN SHEPHERD HICKORY – Mary Evelyn Holden Shepherd, 89, of Hickory went home to be with her Lord on October 13, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born on January 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Candace Holden. Mary was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Hickory. She loved to read, watching birds, cooking, canning, her flowers and gardening. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She was a loving caretaker and teacher to her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Shepherd; granddaughter, Lisa Jonas; three sisters and five brothers. Survivors include her children, Roylene Jonas and husband Charles (Jr) of Hickory, Linda Guess and partner Walter Singleton of Taylorsville, Robert C. Shepherd of Ely, NV, John Shepherd and wife Carolyn of Hickory, Eric Shepherd and partner Peggy Willis of South Mountain; grandchildren, Charles (Chuck) Jonas, Victor Jonas, Christy Farris and husband Mickey, Amy Fortune and husband Dan, ten great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with Pastor Terry Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 PM at the funeral home.
