HICKORY - Mary Jane Rowan McCoy, 78, of Hickory passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the home following a brief illness. Born March 19, 1936, she was the daughter of Raymond and Virginia Rowan of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rowan and a daughter, Virginia Stamey. Mary Jane was a graduate of Mars Hills College and Greensboro College. She taught school for many years in the elementary grades and then was a representative for Southern Hospitality. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Hickory where she was active in Bible study classes, choir, and children’s missions. One of her greatest pleasures was walking on the beach in the off-season which she did on many occasions. She also enjoyed camping and traveling. She is survived by her husband, of 54 years, Richard McCoy, son, David McCoy and wife, Christy, son, Doug McCoy and fiancée, Alicia Hubbard, daughter, Sarah Pyatte and fiancée, Johnny Dellinger, 8 grandchildren, Chad Stamey, Cameron Stamey, Caroline Stamey, Alan Pyatte and wife, Caisey, Trevor McCoy, Megan Frye, John Dellinger and Marcus Hubbard and four great grandchildren, Jathan Pyatte, Dalton Pyatte, Landon Stamey and Emily Stamey. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Hickory on Friday, Oct. 10, at 2:00 P. M. The family will receive from 1:00 – 2:00. The services will be conducted by Dr. Phillip Reynolds and Rev. Pat Pearce. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, N.
