Marlene Rae Melvin

Marlene Rae Kilby Melvin, 83, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Conover Nursing and Rehab. Born in Catawba County, on July 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clark Gordon Kilby and Edna Ethel Ross Kilby. Marlene was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and retired as a billing supervisor with Shuford Mills, tape division.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Edgar “Ed” Melvin, Sr. and sister, Shelia Kilby Stewart.

Marlene is survived by sons, William Edgar (Billy Ed) Melvin, Jr. of Laurel, MD, and Gary Douglas Melvin and wife Sabrina of Sunset Beach, NC; daughter, Vicki Melvin Williams of Hickory; grandchildren, Kristen Melvin Keener and husband Seth of Hickory, R.J. Pope of Hickory, Candice Melvin Gurganious and husband Cory of Hickory and Colby Gage Melvin and Carson of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Makenah Melvin, Kylie Pope, Jacob Keener, Meaghan Pope, Brooklyn Keener, Sophia Gurganious and Koty Gurganious; brothers, David Kilby and wife Judy and Michael Kilby and wife Dawn, both of Conover; Gary Kilby and wife Misty of Newton; brother-in-law, John Stewart of Wilmington, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover with Rev. Dr. Ed Yount officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Hickory.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 440 7th Street Pl. SW, Conover, NC 28613.
