Granite Falls – Lawrence David “Bud” Blackburn, 79 of Granite Falls, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Frye Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born on December 4, 1943 in Wilkes County, NC, David was the son of the late Lonnie and Elsie Porter Blackburn. David was an Army Veteran and served our country during the Vietnam War, stationed in South Korea. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Chapel and was a former deacon, a member of the men’s ministry where he worked on many mission projects over the years. He was also a member of the Wise and Wonderful Life Group at his church. He was loved by his family and church family and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ida Belle Bumgarner and Terry Blackburn and a brother-in-law, E.C. Pennell.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 47 years, Nancy Butler Blackburn; a daughter, Heather Blackburn Matthews; a son, Lonnie Christovan Blackburn and wife, Brandy; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Matthews, Nikolas Chadwick and Lilly Stanislaw and a great grandson, Isaiah Milsap; 3 sisters, Bonnie Pennell, Sandra Coffey (Charlie) and Linda Rabon (Mike), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christian Fellowship Chapel of Granite Falls on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dan Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Fellowship Chapel Building Fund in David’s name.
