Mrs. Laura Merita Barker

She was born on June 4, 1932 in Caldwell County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Walter Avery and Ethel Angeline Laney Hice.

Merita was united in marriage to Wilbur W. Barker. This union was blessed with three children, Claudia and Janet Barker and Neil Barker.

She graduated from Hudson High School in 1951. She worked for the Federal Government and retired with 34 years of service. She was a Christian and a charter member of Freedom Independent Baptist Church in Dudley Shoals, NC.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur W Barker, daughters, Claudia and Janet Barker; sisters, Bertha Carlton, Inez Cantley, Dorothy Winkler and Geraldine Hice.

Survivors include her son, Neil Barker and wife Carolyn of Hudson, NC.

A special thanks to her caregivers Janet Anderson and Carolyn Lawing.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 2 pm on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Catawba Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 2pm at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Jobey Borders officiating. Burial will be held Monday, July 13, 2020 2pm at Catawba Memorial Park.
