Born on April 21, 1943, Larry Edward Huffman was the kind of person who overflowed with warmth and vibrancy. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 5, 2024, in Hickory, NC, leaving behind a legacy that will not easily be forgotten.
After finishing school at Saint Stephens High, Larry embarked on a career in engineering. His creative energy, however, soon “Trumped” the confines of a conventional career path. This would lead him to open fan favorites like Larry’s 19 cent Burgers, O' Yummy Drive-in, and Circle S Diner, where culinary delights were served with an extra helping of charm. Larry did not stop there; his green thumb and love for nature blossomed into the Spring Garden Florist & Plant Shop.
Outside of work, Larry nurtured a passion for coin collecting, a testament to his detail and meticulous nature. Larry spent countless hours with a magnifying glass in hand. He was always on the hunt for the next rare find.
Friends and family knew him as strong-willed but incredibly giving. Larry was the kind of person who would not hesitate to help someone in need—an echo of the faith he valued. He was a man of quiet faith, Larry lived his Christianity through actions, embodying the spirit, generosity and kindness.
The Huffman Family, deeply thankful for all the moments shared, we are reminded of him daily by the love he instilled in his family. Larry was predeceased by his father, Clarence E. Huffman, his mother, June Scarborough Huffman, and his brother, Kenneth L. Huffman.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Barbara Lail Huffman, his daughters Lori H. Klingensmith and husband Robert, Nicole H. Spatz and husband Jonathan, Lauren Huffman, and his son, Curtis E. Huffman, and wife Stacey. Seven Grandchildren Sydney Huffman, Savannah Huffman, Cash Huffman, Mick Klingensmith, Gabby Spatz, Josie Spatz, Andi Spatz, and many more family and friends.
A service to honor Larry’s life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024. The family welcomes visitors from 10:00 to 11:15 am at Hickory Funeral home, followed by a graveside service at Catawba Memorial Park at 12 pm. While Larry is dearly missed, the legacy he leaves behind is a constant reminder of the love he infused in our lives. Our journey is just a pause in the eternal love we share, a love kept fiercely in our hearts.
