She was born on October 18, 1944 to the late Clarence Rhoney and Ethel Pauline Brittain Rhoney in Catawba County. Joyce was a long time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and a woman of faith. She coached softball and basketball at the Rec Center for many years. Joyce had a passion for reading books, puzzles, bingo and adored her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother,sister, and aunt; she will be dearly missed.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Glenda Reed, Ruth Shull; and brothers, Carol Rhoney and Bob Rhoney.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Walker of the home; sons, Junior Walker and wife Carole of Hickory, Tim “Slaw” Walker of Vale; grandchildren, Jessica Walker, Justin Walker, Brycen Walker, Lucas Walker, Nevaeh Peterson; sister, Wanda Walker and husband Ken; brother, Donald Rhoney; numerous nieces and nephews; and special dog, Buddy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Vale. Pastor Allen Boliek will be officiating the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A special thank you to the close family members who took care of Joyce for the past 2 years during her declining health; and to Ebenezer United Methodist Church for being so faithful in their support sending food, cards, prayers, and visiting the family. Joyce adored her softball teammates and players she had the honor of playing and coaching alongside for decades. You all meant the world to her. Your kindness and care will forever be remembered.
