Joyce Dellinger Travis of Hickory passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 25. Born February 16, 1942 to the late JC and Cora Belle Dellinger, who owned Hog Hill Grill and Dance in Vale, NC. There, she met her husband of 57 years, Robert Olen Travis (Olen), until he passed away in May 2015. Also preceding her death were her son, Robert (Rob) Anthony Travis, nephew Mike Dellinger, sisters Coleen Dellinger Houser and Kay Dellinger Beard, and brothers Bill and Jimmy Dellinger.
Joyce was a kind soul and friend to many. She had an infectious laugh and smile that never wavered through her illness. She loved her church, where she sang Alto in the choir for many years, and cherished her church family. There she found loving friends like Jean Patton, Pat Patton, Joyce Stinson, and Nancy Bumgarner, who helped care for her in the last weeks of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Webb, and husband, Jon, granddaughter Mackenzie Patton, daughter-in-law Angie Travis, grandson Bobby Travis, and wife, Brandy, and great-grandchildren Alexis and Emma.
Receiving will be on Monday, January 29, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a service and burial at 4:00 p.m., all at her church, St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA, 2259 12th Ave NE, Hickory, NC. Reverend Terri Landers will officiate.
