Joseph Hughes Smith

Joseph Hughes Smith, aged 79, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, after a brief illness at Trinity Village. He was born in Newton, NC on May 22, 1944. He married his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Pat), on June 12, 1965.

Joe was a member of Viewmont Baptist Church for over 40 years, and during his retirement, he volunteered with the Sabbath Soup Kitchen, the food pantry, and the church security team. He enjoyed greeting members and visitors alike in the narthex each Sunday. His hobbies included toy trains and antique cars.

He retired in 1996 from the State of North Carolina Highway Patrol, Troop F.

He is survived by his wife, Pat (Harris) of the residence; his daughter, Jodi Johnson (Tommy) of Rocky Face, Ga; and his grandson, Ben Johnson of Rocky Face, GA. He is also survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Josephine Hilton Smith; his in-laws, Blaine and Gladys Bolick Harris; his brother, Marion Smith and his brother-in-law, Charlie Harris.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Trinity Village Rehabilitation for their loving care and services.

A receiving of friends for Joe will be held Friday, July 14, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Viewmont Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 pm.
