“Stuffy” was born in Catawba County on December 12, 1967 to Paulette Hull Brown and Joseph Lawrence Hewitt. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1986 where he was active in Student Government, various clubs and organizations, and the athletic department as a member of the football, basketball, and track teams. He also graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies and was also a member of the Tar Heels’ football team from 1986-1990. Stuffy worked as a lineman with Duke Energy for 23 years. He married Michele Baker Martin on April 24, 2004.
“Stuffy” was a master of history and literature. He loved to write as seen by his many “Life’s Simple Pleasures” compositions. He was a gentle man with the kindest of spirits. He knew how to make everyone around him feel like royalty. His most rewarding passion was his family; he found serenity and comfort knowing they were well.
He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents William Howard Taft Hull and Amy S. Hull; maternal grandmother, Mattie Lee Wimbush; paternal grandparents Hubert Hewitt and Eva Hewitt, and his stepfather, Jesse Lee Brown.
