John H. Cansler Jr.

John was born December 10, 1927 in Catawba County to the late John Henry Cansler Sr. and Rosa Morrow Cansler. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Ruth Sease, Martha Amy Fowler, and Elizabeth Ann Allen, brothers, Robert Edward Cansler and James William Cansler.

Survivors include his brother Richard Lee Cansler of Charlotte, a sister Denna Baucom of Boone and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and served one year in the U. S. Army and also served four years in the U. S. Air Force, stationed in Korea during the Korean War. John retired from the Catawba County Schools, Finance department. He was very active in many service clubs and fraternal organizations, including the Longview Lion’s Club, The Exchange Club of Hickory, and the Hickory Masonic Order. John was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was active in many capacities.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, October.1st , at 3:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 547 6th St NW, Hickory, NC 28601 with Reverend Pierson Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 P.M. to 2:45 P.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
