“Mickey” was born July 30, 1949, in Catawba County, to the late James Wilfong and Thelma Gregg Wilfong. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Ethel Shuford, and an Aunt, Mary Wilfong.
He was a lifelong resident of Plateau and a long distance truck driver for Lee Industries. He was a very active member of Plateau United Methodist Church and was known throughout the community as someone who would help you at a moment’s notice in any way he could.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shelia Sain Wilfong, of the home; his son, Michael Todd Wilfong and his wife Barbie, of Hickory, his daughter, Heather Cloer, and her husband Darren, of Hickory, one sister, Debbie Ferrell, and her husband Richard, of Hickory, three brothers, Dusty Wilfong, and his wife Becky, of Vale, Terry Wilfong, and his wife Sandy, of Plateau, David Wilfong, and his wife Belinda, of Newton; four grandchildren; Devin Wilfong, Miranda, Katrina, and Wade Cloer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb 1st, 2011, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hickory Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at Plateau United Methodist Church in Plateau, 3315 Scronce Rd, Vale, Wednesday Feb 2nd at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Bobby Petree officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later date in the church columbarium.
At other times the family will be at the home of Shelia Wilfong.
