James was born on December 24, 1937 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Irene Baker McBride. He was a charter member of The Chapel Church of Hickory. James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a manufacturing rep. in the hunting and fishing industry for over 40 years. James was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McBride.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis McBride; sons, Mark McBride and wife Barbara, Jeff McBride and wife Michele; step-children, Susan Grace and husband, Jim, Kevin Johnson and wife Jill; grandchildren, Marcus McBride and wife Hayley, Chris McBride and wife Jen, Meredith Cook and Chad, Katie Harter and husband Cameron, Patrick Grace, Kathryn Grace, Liam Grace; great-grandchildren, Daniel McBride, Emma McBride, Nova McBride, Jack Beard, Milo Cook, Levi Cook, Ruthie Jo Cook, Phoebe Cook; and sister-in-law, Jean McBride.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11 am at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
