HICKORY---James Lee Roy Deaton, 90, went to be with his Lord on January 28, 2016. James was born February 14, 1925 in Burke Co. to the late James Leland and Blanche Belle Weaver Deaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine “Jo” Cline Deaton, second wife, Edith Riley Deaton; four sisters, Alma Deaton Rudisill, Nora Alice Deaton, Mildred Deaton Oates and Mattie Irene Deaton Richard. James worked for over 35 years as a carpenter for Moss-Marlowe Builders. From an early age, he worked hard his entire life. He enjoyed hard work and good health until he was 88. He cherished all children as his own and loved animals. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served in WW II on the USS Soubarrison (AO-93). Surviving is his daughter, Kelly Dickinson Sites and husband, James of Hickory; seven step-children; a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews and a number of great- nieces and great- nephews. Services will be Sunday, January 31, 2016, at 3:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Douglas Hefner officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Long View. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 1:30 – 2:45 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
