David was born in Catawba County to the late Charlotte Gilbert and Hugh Bernard Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ann Poovey and Judy Killian.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Linda Hoke Huffman: sons, Mark & Jennifer, Paul and his wife Jenny, Mike and his wife Jamie, grandchildren, Brittany, Molli, Maggie, Braden, Bailee, Sara, and Clay Hugh: great grandchildren, Daxton and Bristol Pope, two brothers: Blake and his wife Edna, William and his wife Rita, many nieces, nephews and friends whom David loved dearly.
David’s three sons and grandchildren were the light of his life. He lived by the golden rule, living an exemplary life. David was a third-generation house mover. After the long work days, he packed up his boys to work on the family rental houses together. David’s favorite place was the mountains of Alleghany County where he enjoyed hunting, raising his cattle, tending to the land and spending time with everyone who joined them on the weekends during hunting season. “Sometimes the poorest man leaves the greatest inheritance,” in David’s case it was honesty, and hard work. Even with David’s failing health, he tried to stay involved with everyone’s daily activities.
The family would like to extend their heart-felt appreciation for the loving care provided by Carolina Caring, and Carolina Oncology for their continuous care and to his , Braden for the daily love and support for his Papaw. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held Wednesday, February 20th, 7 o’clock pm at
The Drum Funeral Home of Hickory, 940 29th Avenue NE, Hickory, NC. 828-267-5740. The family will receive friends from 5-6:45pm. David will be laid to rest on his mountain property in Alleghany County.
