Born December 25, 1918 in Davidson Co. He was the son of the late Daisy Bell Robinson Parker and Charlie Benson Parker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Young Parker; a sister-in-law he raised, Ganelle Young; two sisters, Maude Epley and Martha Bowman; five brothers, Charlie, Eugene, Osco, Brice and Ray Parker.
Mr. Parker was a WW II army veteran having received a Purple Heart Medal and served as a medic. He was member of American Legion Post #48. Harry was ordained as a minister in 1943 and served as pastor of Emanuel Baptist Church in Granite Falls. He attended Bible College in Kentucky. He worked for Southern Railroad before going to work for Corning where he retired from. He attended Faith Olive Baptist Church.
Surviving is a special close and dear friend, Betty Rhoney, who was a Ray of Sunshine in his life; his nieces and nephews, Louise Bowman, Glenn Rhoney, Carole and Eulas Lynn, John and Karen Parker, James and Janice Parker, Jerry and Faith Parker, Harold Workman, Donald Lingerfelt, Charles Huffman, Daisy and Charles Williams, Helen and A. J. Aberanthy, Janell and Ray Dellinger, Dorothy and Bobby Lafevers, Barry and Debbie Parker, David Parker, Gary Epley, Bobby Epley and Carl Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at Henry River Baptist Church, where he was a member, at 4105 Henry River Road on Saturday, April 7, at 3 P. M. with Pastor Steve Houser officiating. Burial will follow at Henry River Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #48.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:45 – 2:45 P M at the church.
A special thanks to the staff of Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Also, to his caretakers at home, Barbara Hollar, Mary Hilton and Harold workman, who took him to church every Sunday for the last eight years.
