Gilbert was born July 28, 1929 to the late John Matthew Parson and Martha Jane Punch Parson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mickie Dean Whitener Parson; brothers, J.D., William, Merle and Paul Parson; sister, Marion Parson.
Survivors include daughters, Martha (Randy) Yount, Norma (Zane) Stilwell; twin sister, Colleen Hoyle; grandchildren, Gregory (Devin) Yount, Jason (Haley) Yount, Zane Stilwell II, Cheri (Jimmy) Smith; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; neighbor and friends for 50+ years, Ben, Carolyn Houston and family; special friend, Beverly.
Funeral services will be held at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Byron Repass officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:45 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow service at Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Yount, Jason Yount, Randy Yount, Zane Stilwell, Zane Stilwell II and Ben Houston.
In lieu of flowers memorials May be made to Tri-City Baptist Church Building fund at PO Box 40 Conover, NC 28613.
