Newton – Gary Hall Sims, 88 of Newton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 24, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on January 6, 1935 in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late Jacob Hall and Ethel Marie Winstead Sims. Gary was an avid deer hunter in his youth and he loved his family and he will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by 2 daughters, Lori Sims Chapman and Billie Sue Sims and 2 grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Mingus and Aaron Frye Mingus.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 63 years, Geneva Korn Sims; a son, Dewey Hall Sims and wife, Dea; 4 grandchildren, Kelsey, Kadie, Lee and Stacey, as well as, numerous great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at Eastview Cemetery in Newton on Monday, May 1, 2023 after a visitation at Catawba Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dwayne Pearson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Catawba Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church in Gary’s name.
