HICKORY — Gaither Edward Killian, 85, of Alterra Sterling House, Hickory passed away November 27, 2009.Gaither was born March 10, 1924 in Catawba Co. to the late Roscoe Maloy and Mary Yount Killian.He was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod and retired from Forest City Tool for 35 years. Gaither was a purple heart veteran in the U.S. Army during WW II. He served in the Pacific Theatre and after the surrender of Japan, he was active in making and repairing airport runways for military use in Nagasaki. He was also a member of American Legion Post #48. Gaither was preceded in death by three brothers; Bill Killian, Gerald Killian and Tellis Killian.Surviving are his children; James Edward Killian of Boone, Sharon Marie Lackey of Hickory, Wayne Icard of Hickory, Glenna Icard Moore of Lenoir Kelly Gregory Icard of Taylorsville, Lee Killian of Hickory, Gaye McMurry of Granite Falls; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Winkler of Hickory and Carolyn Smith of Hildebran and a brother, Hugh Killian of Conover.Funeral services will be Monday, November 30, at 7:00 P. M. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod with the Reverends David Guelzow and David Ziehr officiating.The family will receive friends Monday Nov 30 from 5:45 PM until 6:45 PM at the church.
